Our Lady of Sorrow

Title: Our Lady of Sorrow
Size: 30 in. x 16 in.
Media: Mixed Media Assemblage (including oil, acrylic, paper, dried plants, foam board) on found object (Trunk)

Once again, I took inspiration from old family portraits. This one is a bit unusual. Towering over an old family cemetery in Texas was a statue known as “Our Lady of Sorrow”.¬† The cemetery looked upon White Rock Lake in Dallas – where the family farm and estate once stood. Over the years due to threats of vandalism, the statue ended up in the care of a relation in San Antonio. This is a sort of abstract depiction of the statue resting over the shores of White Rock Lake. Sorry about the photographs. The piece was extraordinarily difficult to photograph. Enjoy.

Not sure what to really say. Fascinating? The abstraction is surreal.
